Analysis
Group H contains Spain, Uruguay, Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia. Spain are clear favourites to win the group. Uruguay's task is to take second place, and beating Saudi Arabia is the minimum expectation.
Saudi Arabia famously shocked Argentina 2-1 at the 2022 World Cup — but that result relied on a perfectly executed high press and an Argentine side that were poor in the first half. Uruguay, with Darwin Núñez as the focal point and Rodrigo Bentancur directing midfield, are a different proposition. They are experienced, compact when needed, and clinical enough to punish any Saudi defensive lapse. Saudi Arabia can produce moments of quality but cannot rely on 2022 magic again.
- Uruguay: Darwin Núñez's pace and power is a constant threat; experienced squad with two-time World Cup winners in the setup.
- Saudi Arabia: well-drilled, capable of the high press, but consistency at this level is questionable.
- Key factor: Uruguay need to be disciplined early — if they concede first against Saudi Arabia's set-pieces, the game gets complicated.
